Price Lab 2.0: AI Price Search Passes Two Major Shopping Tests — One Challenge Remains

2 PASS · 1 PARTIAL — Pixel ties all three engines at $549; Shokz and Starlink delivered prices stay unresolved

Two verified product matches, one remaining configuration challenge, and a three-engine competitor check in which no overall price winner could be established.

Products Tested

Google Pixel 10a — 128GB, unlocked, new

Condition: NewColor: Fog

Internal search grade: PASS. Best qualifying offer: $549 with free shipping at Amazon. Request 0db6a6f9-4057-4c1f-94d7-91f34169f921 — 4 verified, 3 Best Price eligible, coverage sufficient.

Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 — Standard, Black

Condition: NewColor: Black

Internal search grade: PASS. Best qualifying offer: $179.95 with free shipping at Amazon, sold by Shokz Official. Request e5a8d8a8-acab-4ef8-a73d-aafe6c947492 — 6 verified, 6 eligible, coverage sufficient.

152Wh battery compatible with Starlink Mini

Condition: New

Internal search grade: PARTIAL. The 152Wh offer at $109.99 qualifies; a 153.3Wh compatible alternative at $106.99 was the lower price. Kit contents and exact configuration remain unverified. Request e066306d-8081-4ba3-88c1-448ffd5c3688 — 6 verified, 4 eligible, coverage sufficient.

What AI Price Search Got Right

  • Found a new, unlocked 128GB Pixel 10a in Fog at $549 with free shipping — $150 below the earlier benchmark's qualifying price.
  • No longer misreads a phone's battery-life wording ("30+ Hours Battery") as evidence that the listing is a battery accessory.
  • Qualified the legitimate Shokz OpenRun Pro 2, Standard, Black at $179.95 while still excluding renewed units and different headphone models.
  • Kept the requested 152Wh battery eligible and surfaced the $109.99 offer that earlier runs missed.
  • Rejected mounts, cases/housings, out-of-stock units, and capacity mismatches (including a 166Wh pack) instead of ranking them as bargains.
  • Verified free non-member shipping to ZIP 71941 for the cited offers, and did not present unconfirmed sales tax as part of the total.

What AI Price Search Got Wrong

  • Ranked a 153.3Wh compatible alternative at $106.99 as the lower price without making the configuration difference prominent enough for a shopper who asked for 152Wh.
  • Cannot yet confirm which cables or charging accessories are included in either battery package, so complete-kit status stays unverified.
  • Still rejects some legitimate titles written as "OpenRun Pro Mini 2" for a generation mismatch. It did not prevent the Standard model from winning this test.
  • Amazon's direct-provider eligibility error is unresolved — the successful Amazon offers in this test came through SerpAPI rather than the direct Amazon provider.
  • Diagnostic counts and final result counts still need reconciliation in some runs, and retry/fallback behavior under insufficient provider coverage is still being validated separately.

Results

No overall winner established.

UnrankedGoogle Pixel 10a

Three-way tie at $549 with free shipping to ZIP 71941, before tax. APS, ShopSavvy, and Google Shopping each identified a verified equivalent offer. APS internal search grade: PASS (correctness, not a competitor ranking).

UnrankedShokz OpenRun Pro 2

ShopSavvy and Google Shopping found a $169.99 item price from Mack Cycle, versus APS at $179.95. Delivered-price winner unresolved because competitor shipping to ZIP 71941 is unknown. APS internal search grade: PASS.

UnrankedStarlink Mini 152Wh

No verified equivalent-kit or delivered-price winner. Google Shopping's $108 Walmart listing carried the same stated capacity, but shipping to ZIP 71941 and package-content equivalence were unverified; ShopSavvy produced no verified qualifying 152Wh offer. APS internal search grade: PARTIAL.

Two verified product matches, one remaining configuration challenge, and a significant improvement in search accuracy.

The Results: Two Passes, One Partial

At AI Price Search, we believe a price comparison engine should do more than display the cheapest number. It should identify the correct product, verify the purchase destination, distinguish shipping charges from membership promotions, and avoid presenting uncertain offers as confirmed bargains.

Our latest Price Lab testing shows meaningful progress.

On November 2, 2026, we ran three fresh searches against the AI Price Search engine using a U.S. shipping destination (ZIP 71941). All three searches bypassed cached results, and request-linked diagnostics confirmed backend Decision Rules version 33.

The results:

  • Google Pixel 10a, unlocked, 128GB, new — $549, free shipping — PASS
  • Shokz OpenRun Pro 2, new — $179.95, free shipping — PASS
  • Starlink Mini compatible battery, 152Wh target — $106.99 compatible alternative; $109.99 for the 152Wh offer — PARTIAL

All listed prices exclude sales tax, which was not confirmed. Free non-member shipping was verified for the cited offers to ZIP 71941.

Test 1: Google Pixel 10a — PASS

Verified price: $549 at Amazon.

Our earlier Price Lab testing found a qualifying unlocked Pixel 10a offer at $699. This time, APS identified a new, unlocked 128GB Pixel 10a in Fog for $549 with free shipping.

The improvement wasn't just about price.

Earlier search logic could misinterpret wording about a phone's battery life as evidence that the listing was a battery accessory rather than a smartphone. The updated engine correctly recognizes the phone while continuing to enforce the unlocked requirement and destination verification.

Result: PASS. The newly found qualifying offer is $150 below the earlier benchmark's qualifying price. This reflects improved offer discovery between tests, not a guaranteed market-wide price reduction.

Test 2: Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 — PASS

Verified price: $179.95 at Amazon.

The previous benchmark exposed a frustrating problem: APS correctly rejected unrelated headphones but also excluded legitimate Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 listings.

That meant shoppers could receive no Best Price winner even when a valid product was available.

In this test, APS successfully identified the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2, Black, Standard configuration, sold by Shokz Official, for $179.95 with free shipping.

Manufacturer corroboration now allows the legitimate exact-model offer to qualify. Renewed products and different headphone models remain ineligible.

One smaller classification issue remains: certain retailer titles using the wording "OpenRun Pro Mini 2" can still be rejected for a generation mismatch. That deserves further investigation, but it did not prevent the correct Standard model from winning this test.

Result: PASS. APS found a legitimate exact-model offer without relaxing its protection against unrelated or older products.

Test 3: Starlink Mini Battery — PARTIAL

Verified 152Wh offer: $109.99

Lower-priced compatible alternative: $106.99

The Starlink Mini battery search showed substantial improvement, but it also demonstrated why product configuration matters.

In earlier testing, APS failed to surface the expected $109.99, 152Wh battery offer. In the latest run, that offer successfully qualified.

View the tested 152Wh battery

However, APS selected a different compatible battery from REYTRIC, rated at 153.3Wh, for $106.99.

View the tested 153.3Wh alternative

The lower-priced battery is a legitimate compatible option, but its capacity and voltage configuration differ from the requested 152Wh product. The available evidence also does not fully establish which cables or charging accessories are included in each package.

For a shopper requesting a specific 152Wh battery configuration, those differences should be visible rather than hidden behind a lower price.

Result: PARTIAL. The missing-offer problem improved, but exact-configuration comparison and complete-kit verification still need refinement.

What Changed Behind the Scenes?

Our latest testing focused on three important improvements.

Better product recognition. The engine now distinguishes ordinary product descriptions from accessories more accurately, reducing the chance of rejecting a legitimate phone or battery.

Stronger manufacturer and model verification. Exact Shokz products can now qualify while different generations, models, and conditions remain excluded.

More reliable shipping interpretation. The tested offers showed free delivery available to non-members at the specified destination. APS must continue to distinguish genuine free shipping from Prime-only, conditional, or otherwise unverified delivery claims.

These improvements are part of an ongoing effort to make search results both useful and trustworthy.

What We're Still Working On

We are not declaring Price Lab complete.

Our remaining engineering work includes improving exact-configuration matching for battery systems, reconciling discrepancies between diagnostic counts and final search results, and separately validating retry and fallback behavior when provider coverage is insufficient.

Amazon's direct-provider eligibility error also remains unresolved. The successful Amazon offers in this test were discovered through SerpAPI rather than the direct Amazon provider.

These issues did not produce an incorrect Best Price winner in this test, but they remain important to search coverage and reliability.

Competitor Comparison: APS vs. ShopSavvy vs. Google Shopping

Independent comparison conducted November 2, 2026

Following our internal Price Lab tests, we independently checked equivalent products through ShopSavvy and Google Shopping, then opened merchant destinations to verify available prices.

The results show that AI Price Search is competitive, but no overall three-engine winner can be established from these tests.

Google Pixel 10a: APS, ShopSavvy, and Google Shopping each identified a verified equivalent offer at $549 with free shipping to ZIP 71941. This was a three-way tie before tax.

Shokz OpenRun Pro 2: ShopSavvy and Google Shopping identified a Black/Standard offer from Mack Cycle at $169.99, compared with APS's $179.95 Amazon offer. However, Mack Cycle's shipping cost to ZIP 71941 was not confirmed, so the lowest delivered price remains unresolved.

Starlink Mini 152Wh battery: APS identified a $109.99 offer with free shipping. Google Shopping found a $108 Walmart listing with the same stated capacity, but shipping to ZIP 71941 and package-content equivalence could not be verified. ShopSavvy did not produce a verified qualifying 152Wh offer in the examined results.

These findings are limited to the products, configurations, merchants, and verification windows tested. Prices exclude tax, and unverified shipping was never assumed to be free.

Our conclusion: APS produced two successful internal product tests and one partial configuration test. The competitor comparison confirms a Pixel price tie, identifies a potentially cheaper Shokz offer, and leaves the Starlink delivered-price comparison unresolved.

We will continue testing product identity, shipping accuracy, and verified purchase destinations rather than awarding price wins based on unconfirmed search-result prices.

The Price Lab Verdict

Two passes. One partial. Significant progress.

The Pixel 10a and Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 now produce qualifying results where earlier engine behavior created unnecessary exclusions or less competitive discovery.

The Starlink Mini battery test also improved, but it revealed a final distinction worth solving: a compatible alternative is not always an identical configuration.

That's exactly why we publish Price Lab findings, including the problems.

A trustworthy price comparison engine shouldn't simply find a low number. It should explain what the shopper is actually getting and what remains uncertain.

Testing disclosure: Searches conducted November 2, 2026, at approximately 10:48 a.m. CST, using ZIP 71941, USD, and backend Decision Rules v33. Merchant destinations were reopened during the reported test. Prices, stock, and shipping may change. Sales tax was not confirmed, and the reported prices are not guaranteed final checkout totals. This report covers three selected test cases, not overall engine accuracy or market-wide price leadership.

Retest Status

Next work: exact-configuration matching for battery systems (capacity, voltage, and included accessories), reconciling diagnostic counts against final results, and separately validating retry and fallback behavior when provider coverage is insufficient. Also scheduled: confirming Mack Cycle shipping to ZIP 71941 and the Walmart 152Wh package contents before any Shokz or Starlink delivered-price claim is published. No retest is planned solely for the wording of Shokz rejections, which does not change eligibility.
